The wood slice paintings are reminiscent of souvenirs travelers once purchased as mementos of their road trips. These “souvenir” portraits document life in rural California. They depict the agricultural, industrial and recreational landscape, as well as the wildlife whose habitats shrink as this landscape changes. The narrative that runs through these paintings is the story of my community.
All paintings are acrylic on birch, aspen, rowan, linden or jacaranda wood. Round shapes range from 5.5 to 7.75 inches in diameter. Ovals range from 5 to 44 inches in height x 1.75 to 12 inches in width.
